Snagging
Also known as: Defects inspection · Snag list
Snagging is the final inspection of a new property to list defects before handover. The developer fixes the items on the snag list before you take the keys.
A snagging inspection happens just before handover. A surveyor or inspector walks every room and records every small defect — chipped tiles, sticky doors, paint gaps, broken fittings.
This list of defects is called a snag list. The developer is responsible for fixing every item before you take the keys.
Snagging is most important for off-plan units. You are often taking handover of a home you have never physically walked before.
Many overseas buyers hire a local snagging company on their behalf. Reports usually arrive with photos and severity ratings.
